Old meets new

Excitement overload for old and new

I was so excited to receive my pre-order from the Holiday Catalogue! But had also made myself a promise that I would use up some washi ASAP too – so I am making some cards where Old meets new.

If you saw some of my Facebook posts recently I need to use up some washi. I have about 50 rolls of washi and it has just been sitting there, with only have two current rolls of washi and the rest retired. Recently I embarked on a massive craft de-stash and sold a lot of my retired products and items I am no longer using but as postage is quite expensive washi is difficult to post without too much bulk so it was not popular.

when old meets new!

The So Many Star Bundle really caught my eye and this type of card was made super easy with the stitched star dies as it is just one run through the die cutting machine to get all 4 stars cut out at once. I used Whisper White as the card base and then cut a layer 1/8 inch smaller to layer on top. The card base is where I used all the washi tape. Now the washi I used is retired from last year’s Christmas range, it was called Year of Cheer and has gold, silver and copper colours in the pack. choosing to use the two copper-colored pieces and simply layered them all over the card base. finally I trimmed the edges so they are flush with the card base.

So Many Stars and Washi Tape Card 1

Making sure to leave enough gap at the bottom of the layering piece (before cutting) to fit the sentiment, which comes from the So Many Stars Stamp Set. Stamp this in versamark and then I heat embossed with the copper embossing powder. layering achieved with dimensionals.

So Many Stars and Washi Tape Card 2

Something different for old washi

With this card, the washi tape is only on the cutout stars which was a bit fiddly and I ended up trimming it around the cutouts too (not folding it behind the star as it was getting very bulky). I then heat embossed the greeting as per the previous card. lining up the stars with the cutout pieces and placed tape on the back to stick these to the card base, then layered the top piece with dimensionals. Making sure to use my Take Your Pick tool to poke any of the star pieces underneath this top layer to finish the card.

These two cards ended up using half a roll of each of the two designs of the washi tape so I was really happy with this. There is still plenty of washi to make a few more cards and the next few I will emboss the greeting in gold and silver to use the rest of the rolls in this pack.
