Still using this months card sketch below. If you would like to enter my challenge on my Facebook Page here are the details. The challenge is using the below sketch and at least 80% of Stampin’ Up! supplies make a card and then upload it to the comments of the pinned post. At the end of the month, I will randomly select a winner who will get a free gift. I used the sketch along with the Bird Ballard Suite.
This month we are still using this sketch
Birds freak me out…will Bird Ballard Suite?
Those that know me, know that birds, well anything with a beak really, freaks me out. I am not sure if I had some sort of trauma as a child as I can not recall anything about birds, but I just don’t like them. With that said at first I was not a fan of this set either and over the years Stampin’ Up! have released many stamps set with bird images and I have not bought any of them, not one!!! However, this set has certainly grown on me and although it was not my first purchase, I did get a bit of envy of those demonstrators that did include it in their pre-orders.
These are the three cards which I have created and to my surprise, they all have quite a lot of detail and embellishments on them as well. This is not my usual style of card as I do and keep things more simple but I am liking these cards and hope to create more like this.
Watching Frozen while Crafting
Keeping the colouring of the birds simple with Pool Party and Light Crumb Cake. I also then stamped a number of both of the flower images in memento ink and then coloured them in a variety of colours, including Calypso Coral (Light and Dark), Daffodil Delight (Light and Dark), Pool Party (Light and Dark), then I proceeded to fussy cut this out. While sitting in front of the TV watching Frozen for the millionth time so it didn’t feel like it took much time at all. The leaves are punched out using the leaf punch and the vellum that comes in the Floral Essence Suite, however, I have purposely adhered this with the wrong side up to mute the green tone more. I added some Wink of Stella to the birds and flowers and finished off with some pearls, lace ribbon and a trinket from the suite.
Hopefully, these close up pictures shows the sparkle from the Wink of Stella more.
I am not sure about you but when the Paper Pumpkin kit was available in Australia in May I had to have it, but I have been so busy I had not had a chance to put any of the cards together until a few days ago. Once I did this I fell in love with the vellum feathers which were part of that kit. Why oh why can we not buy refills in Australia? Even if we could I am not sure I would have because I didn’t put the kit together until it was too later.
Stamping On Vellum
Anyways, I decided I could make some of my own vellum embellishments and use as many as I liked them. I used the feather stamp from the Paper Pumpkin kit and stamped a whole sheet of vellum. Firstly I did it with Staz On ink because vellum is slippery and I wanted a good clean image.
But when you use Staz On you can’t colour with the Blends as it takes the ink away…. So I coloured those ones with the Stampin’ Write Markers and they worked a treat and are shown on the next card. Then I went back to and stamped another whole piece of vellum with the feather image, this time in Memento ink. This was a little slippery and had to make sure you stamp straight up and down and not move the stamp.
Then I coloured these with the Blends and I used the same colours as the ones in the Paper Pumpkin kit, Pool Party/Bermuda Bay and Crumb Cake. Again I fussy cut these out whilst still watching Frozen.
The feathers are shown here in the close-up image and they are quite muted but I think that works well, given the DSP in the background is quite busy.
I coloured the birds in Daffodil Delight and again used Wink of Stella over them and the flowers. I also added some of the leaf trinkets as well just to finish this card off.
Feathers, Feathers, Feathers
This is the third card and I just went with the single bird image on this one but I added a googly eye. I used the Braided Linen Thread on this and some more of those flowers that I fussy cut along with the feathers that I coloured with the Stampin’ Write Markers. These have come out a lot brighter than the Blends.
I did stamp the insides of the cards with the single bird image and left it uncoloured but I forgot to take photos of this.
This suite was so much fun to play with and I still have loads of it left, so look out for some more posts in the coming months.
Hope you enjoyed the card as much as I enjoyed making it and it inspires you to get creative with this set or another set you may own that is similar.
